Don't test us: Netanyahu threatens to act against Iran

Israel's prime minister has said his regime could "act" directly against Iran, showing off what he called a piece of an Iranian drone which the Israeli military claims to have downed more than a week ago.

Iran's foreign minister ridiculed a security conference speech by Netanyahu, who used a part of a drone to make a point. You should, it's yours.

"Take back with you a message for the tyrants of Tehran: "Do not test Israel's resolve", Netanyahu said.

In response Iran's Foreign Minister said the shooting down of an Israeli jet after it bombed an Iranian site in Syria had shattered Israel's "so-called invincibility".

"Iran is trying to dominate our region, Middle East. [.] It is developing ballistic missiles, "Netanyahu started, who later assured that Iran aspires to build" an empire from Tehran to Tartús and from Caspian Sea to Mediterranean". Some of the persons detained for questioning are related to the news website.

Zarif retaliated that Netanyahu's holding up of what he said was a drone was a "cartoonish circus" that did "not even deserve the dignity of a response". "Do you recognize it?"

"They should be stopped and slammed with the most crippling sanctions to prevent them from continuing the development of these [nuclear] delivery systems, these guns", he said.

Israel fears that Iran, which is supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime, is seeking to entrench itself militarily next door.

Iran has offered support to Shia militias in Iraq and Yemen, to Hamas in Gaza and to the Lebanese Hezbollah. We are willing, prepared, and capable to exact a heavy price on anyone that attacks us.

Former Secretary of State John Kerry, an architect of the nuclear deal with Iran, mounted a defense of it, saying it wasn't flawless but that it bought the worldwide community time to find a permanent solution.

The channel says two people arrested are Netanyahu associates and that Netanyahu, who held the communications portfolio until a year ago, is expected to be questioned.

They both addressed an worldwide security conference in Munich, Germany on Sunday. "Millions were slaughtered here just because they were Jews", he said.

Netanyahu has used other high-profile platforms, including the US Congress and United Nations General Assembly, to highlight the existential threat to Israel if Iran develops nuclear weapons.
