McCabe has memos documenting his conversations with Trump

Andrew McCabe, ex-FBI director and Trump target, fired days before retiring

McCabe has said he believed his firing was because he corroborated former FBI Director James Comey's claim that Trump tried to pressure him into killing a probe into Russian interference in the 2016 USA election.

Sessions fired McCabe on Friday amid an internal Department of Justice investigation into his handling of the FBI's investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server to conduct government business.

The memos also detail what former FBI Director James Comey told McCabe about his own interactions with Trump while he was FBI director and are seen as a way to corroborate Comey's account in Mueller's probe on Russian interference in the 2016 election.

McCabe asserted he was singled out because of the "role I played, the actions I took, and the events I witnessed in the aftermath" of Comey's firing by Trump last May.

Part of Mueller's probe is looking into whether President Trump was trying to obstruct justice by firing Comey.

Responding to a Daily Beast question, Dowd initially said that he was speaking for Trump "as his counsel".

February Retail Sales Increase 4.4 Percent Over Last Year
Meanwhile, sales rose at stores that sell building materials, on retail websites, and at restaurants and bars. Nonstore retailer sales are up 10.1% year-over-year as online retailers continue to grow their market share.

McCabe told the Times that his firing was meant to undermine the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

However, in a statement issued immediately after his termination was announced, Mr. McCabe said the decision was politically motivated. "Their persistence in this campaign only highlights the importance of the Special Counsel's work".

Comey said he was moved to record his conversations with the President after Trump asked him to end the ongoing investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who later pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.

Preet Bharara, the former United States attorney for the Southern District of NY, in a pair of tweets took aim at both Sessions for succumbing to pressure to fire McCabe and at Trump weighing in. In an interview published in Politico after McCabe was sacked, he said that he had been expecting to be fired for a "long time," walking with dread into his office every day, wondering if it would be his last. But he later retracted that statement, saying he was commenting in his personal capacity. The 49-year-old is likely to keep at least some of his pension. But the McCabe and Comey situations are also somewhat different. At the time the investigation was launched in July 2015, Mr. McCabe was running the FBI's Washington, D.C., field office, which provided personnel and resources to the Clinton email probe.

The decision came after Associate Deputy Attorney General Scott Schools met with McCabe Thursday, a part of an effort to shift the McCabe decision to "career officials" within the DOJ, according to a source familiar with the process. He cited in particular President Donald Trump's attacks on McCabe on Twitter and the White House press secretary's comments about him on Thursday - which he said were "quite clearly created to put inappropriate pressure on the Attorney General to act accordingly".
