Apple testing MicroLed screens of its own making

This could be our first look at Apple's new color for its 2018 iPhone X sequels

Apple plans to make a small number of screens at first for testing purposes for their wearable devices, as reported by Bloomberg. This can give MicroLED excellent contrast, power efficiency, and viewing angles without OLED's compromises on brightness or longevity. Chief Executive Officer at DisplayMate Technologies, Beam Soneira said, "Everybody can purchase an OLED or LCD screen", he says. But as it's comprised of quantum dots atop self-emissive diodes, with micro pixels and micro (less than 1mm) pixel spacing, it's an involved and expensive technology to produce. Apple uses Samsung screens for the iPhone X and LG screens for the Apple Watch, and developing its own screens to its own specifications will help it develop better phones that are entirely built around the company's strengths. If all goes well, Apple could decide to bring MicroLED to more products in the future, including the company's iPhone.

Apple is done relying on Samsung, LG, and others for its displays. But in the highly competitive smartphone market, Apple's iPhone and other devices could stand out in the space by controlling its own in-house MicroLED technology. Apple is designing and producing MicroLED displays in test quantities at a secret manufacturing plant near its headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., Bloomberg said.

If the manfacturing of these MicroLED screens will take place in the United States, this will please President Trump, who has long sought to persuade tech firms to bring their development and manufacturing back to America.

Ri's visit to Stockholm , where he once served as a diplomat at the North Korean Embassy, has been shrouded in secrecy. Ri's visit to Sweden comes a week after the shock announcement that Trump accepted an invitation to meet Kim by May.

The move could hurt Asian display suppliers.MicroLED is a new display technology that has grabbed the attention of several tech firms.

According to DigiTimes, Apple's securing between 250 million and 270 million iPhone flat-panel units in 2018. That's not expected to happen at least until two or three years, but the reports alone where enough to send display makers' shares drop immediately. Three hundred engineers are now working on the project in a 62,000-square-foot space.

Samsung, for one, will likely not sit idly and wait until Apple develops superior display technology all on its own.
