Get ready to start seeing more local ads on YouTube

It will now likely launch at the end of this month. YouTube's CEO, Susan Wojcicki, responded last week by announcing that the company would begin supplementing such videos with annotations from Wikipedia about the topics in question.

It will be interesting to see how Google will manage two music-streaming services, as it already has its Google Play Music, which is also subscription-based.

The goal? Driving subscriptions to an as-yet-unannounced paid YouTube music service.

Cohen also straightforwardly confirmed that YouTube is planning to "smoke out" users who can afford to pay a subscription and and make them do so with the new service.

The company faces a truly hard battle to convert current users. The situation frustrates musicians trying to make a living in the streaming era. Because of its non-existent price tag, YouTube accounted for 46% of all time spent listening to on-demand music.

Music-streaming services have revolutionized the way we listen to music. Record companies used to criticize Spotify for giving away too much for free as well, but the Stockholm-based music service has converted nearly half of its users into paying subscribers by limiting what's available for free. "For example, an airline could reach people on YouTube who recently searched Google.com for 'flights to Hawaii.' We call this custom intent audiences", explained the recent Google's announcement.

"YouTube's newly released released vague and one-sided firearms policy makes it abundantly clear that YouTube can not be counted upon to be a safe harbor for a wide variety of views and subject matter", InRange TV wrote.

The company has claimed for years that YouTube ads are more effective than TV because they allow targeting - but that's an argument that can be made for may sorts of online ads.

The move is the latest in the Google-owned service's efforts to improve its relations with the music industry, which has complained loud and long about its comparatively low royalty payments.
