Bumped United passenger walks away with $10000 voucher

United CEO accepted responsibility for dog's death on flight

People stand in line at a United Airlines counter at LaGuardia Airport in NY.

A United Airlines passenger bumped from a flight on walking away with a travel voucher isn't terribly surprising - except that hers was worth $10,000. He declined to name the person.

For Allison Preiss, a communications director from Washington who began tweeting Thursday morning from Dulles International Airport after she was asked to deboard, her travel experience ended much better than it began. A broken seat meant the airline had one too many passengers.

In the case of an oversold flight, airlines will kick off the lowest fare passenger, unless there is a volunteer. United couldn't board her because a seat broke on the plane, according to Preiss, and no one volunteered to give up a seat.

Passman said her business doesn't allow pets to be sedated before a flight, and pet owners shouldn't do it either. Then a United agent offered a $10,000 voucher.

"They really do not want to give me cash". Preiss tried to get cash out of United, but they would not budge.

Her series of tweets read.

"If you've got a picture of the dog on the create, they're not going to put a poodle in a German shepherd's kennel", she said. "TEN THOUSAND", she wrote, sharing photo evidence of the massive buyout.

Ms Preiss tweeted as the drama unfolded.

United raised the amount airport employees could pay a bumped passenger to $10,000 past year after criticism over the violent dragging of a man off a full flight in Chicago.
