Siri Bug Lets Strangers Hear Your Messages

Siri privacy bug lets it read out most hidden message content on a locked iPhone

Building a slide deck, pitch, or presentation?

The one exception is Apple's own Messages app, where Siri will read them only if the phone is unlocked.

Siri just can't seem to figure out when to keep quiet.

Previously, we reported a bug in iOS 11 that allowed Siri to read messages out loud without unlocking the phone. Siri bypassing the iPhone's lock and hidden notification setting is of major concern as users might have personal and confidential information on their WhatsApp, Gmail or even Slack.

We suspect that this is a common configuration - notifications on the lockscreen are only supposed to point out that you have messages to look at, so you're not leaking any actual message content while your phone is locked. To do so, go to Settings Siri & Search Disable Allow Siri When Locked. Apple's latest operating system has been bug-ridden since its launch.

Protect Yourself: To hide message content on the Lock screen, click Settings Notifications, choose the app.

Apple is developing its own MicroLED screens for Apple Watch and iPhone
Courtesy of the cost reduction, Line expects the 5.85-inch OLED version to be the most of affordable of the new iPhone Xs . Since early this year there have been several rumours about the new lineup of Apple iPhones launching in 2018.

According to Mac Magazine, the bug works in iOS 11.2.6 and iOS 11.3 beta as well; Apple has been made aware of the bug.

Apple's iPhones and its proprietary iOS mobile software boast of optimum security as compared to Android smartphones. While features like Face ID have been hailed a step forward, the ACLU and privacy experts have questioned how much access app developers should have to facial scans.

As pointed out by MacRumors, Apple iPhone X users have a reason to be anxious by this bug.

Apple's own software remains relatively locked down. You'll be able to see that you have messages, but only by opening the relevant app's screen will they be visible. "It means household names probably won't exploit this, but there's still a lot of room for bottom feeders".

"Apple does have a pretty good historical track record of holding developers accountable who violate their agreements, but they have to catch them first-and sometimes that's the hard part", Stanley said.
