Toys 'R' Us liquidation sales kick off with last minute bargains

Toys R Us

The efforts focus on Toys "R" Us's USA stores and are separate from Larian's attempts to buy the brand's 82 Canadian stores, which 20 interested parties are vying for, said Toys "R" Us bankruptcy documents filed in the U.S. We grew up around here, and the kids are never going to have the chance for their kids to be able to come in and see what a real toy store is, because there are none anymore.

The goal is to raise US$1 billion, which will be used in a bid to acquire all or some Toys "R" Us assets through the bankruptcy process, according to a statement issued on billionaire Isaac Larian's behalf.

The sales were expected to begin on Thursday, but were delayed by "unforeseen circumstances".

After filing for bankruptcy protection in September, Toys R Us said last week that it planned to liquidate its USA business and close its 735 stores in the United States and Puerto Rico, including a Toys R Us in Fort Smith and a Babies R Us in Little Rock. Any sales at stores not among those locations are tied to the company's plans to liquidate its United States business.

The industry has also lost millions to Toys "R" Us, including Larian's Van Nuys, Calif. -based MGA, which is owed about $12 million, according to court filings.

The liquidation sales are in-store only, for now.

Commercial real estate experts say the recent announcement from Toys "R" Us that it's going to close or sell more than 800 of its stores in the USA could have a negative impact on the retail property sector.

Liquidation sales were originally supposed to start earlier in the week, but were pushed to Friday. The online stores will be open for a limited time. He also says the toy industry needs a big chain like Toys R Us, where children can touch and feel the toys and toymaker's can test new products.

Any purchases made are final. Customers have only 21 days to return items, however, and must show a receipt.

"We live in a digital online world at this point and online shopping has significantly taken over in comparison to the in stores", Roberts said.

Use your gift cards now. Gift cards can not be returned for cash. Coupons will not be honored as the sales go on. Now the stores are advertising deep discounts to sell out their inventory.
