Luke Skywalker: The long lost prince?

Mark Hamill says George Lucas planned to kill Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode IX

However, it seems as though George Lucas would have made similarly massive decisions if he'd made the sequel trilogy. Alongside Harrison Ford's Han Solo and Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia, Hamill's Skywalker has been a key character to the new canon of movies but it was expected that all three were going to be phased out.

As reported in Entertainment, Mark Hamill explains to the hosts, "When I got my chance to talk to them, I said "Your Highness, I would like to make a case for myself".

However, in an interview with IGN, Hamill revealed that Lucas meant to kill off Luke at the end of "Episode IX" after he had trained his twin sister General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) the ways of the Force. It was then that the actor dropped a bombshell: Lucas, at one point, intended have Luke die in Episode IX, just as he did in The Last Jedi.

It sounds as though Lucas' idea was similar to what occurred in the Expanded Universe, with Luke training Leia to be Jedi and carrying those ideals into the future.

And they're just as aware that some fans' resolve to never see another Star Wars movie again will last only up until the next Star Wars movie is released. But if he is, audiences aren't likely to find out until that film opens in the USA on 20 December 2019.

Following the tragic death of Fisher back in December after filming her final scenes as Leia, Hamill revealed he doesn't know whether he will be returning as a Force Ghost in Episode IX.

Another thing this trailer criticizes is that The Last Jedi fails to answer the big questions that were left open from The Force Awakens.

The stories fans saw in that film and in Johnson's The Last Jedi aren't ones Lucas originally wrote, he asserted.
