Chicago bar with epic Sister Jean sign ahead of Final Four

Final Four 2018 Moe Wagner Michigan reject idea reality of Loyola's 'Cinderella' run

It became MI, the No. 3 seed that brought to the Alamodome its 13-game winning streak, which finally would see off a Ramblers team, its oft-gorgeous offense and its rock-star 98-year-old chaplain, Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt. And there will be no Hollywood ending for Loyola-Chicago. The maligned institution needed it. What a run for the Ramblers. It wasn't just fun.

Fans say they're so proud of the men's basketball team for making it this far in the tournament. - Loyola players pranced into the locker room leading 29-22 and believing they could win this thing. It wasn't quite like that this time.

"We're not like that where we can go and just school anybody", Beilein said.

"The more you invest in something, the harder it is to give up". The name "Loyola" will never be the same.

Loyola-Chicago has finally ended its long field-goal drought at the Final Four. They changed, across the country, the alumni, the pride. Wagner had to do so much in the opening 20 minutes, he looked exhausted toward the end of the half.

In 100 years of basketball at Loyola, a Catholic college in the heart of Chicago with of about 16,000 students, no team has won more games than this year's Ramblers (30-5), the No. 11 seed in the South Region.

Overall at one point, MI had a 30-9 run in the second half.

Villanova is going to play for another national championship.

Some students said they will continue their sit-in , and even sleep-in, at the building until their demands are taken seriously. It came from institutional funds of the university meant to help low-income students pay tuition.

This Loyola team became just the fourth No. 11 seed to reach the Final Four with patient offense and precision passing. LSU lost to Louisville, the eventual champion, 88-77. The Ramblers must settle for knowing they came closer than any of their peers to advancing.

Loyola had no answers for the 6-foot-11 Wagner and its offense, so smooth and efficient on the way to San Antonio, broke down in the second half and finished with 17 turnovers.

Wagner is about all MI had going in the first half, even as an early lead turned into a seven point deficit at the half. And we saw some great defense [from Loyola]. "We had trouble scoring int he first half. They rotated so quickly". MI wasn't all that efficient, either. It made two of 13 3-point attempts.

Moe Wagner has played 106 career games in three seasons at MI. Sophomore point guard Zavier Simpson missed two three-pointers, had a turnover and a foul on his way to the bench early.

The game turned into a defensive slugfest. "She said she was happy to be on this run with us. I don't think we had any fastbreak points out of it, but we just stopped them", Beilein said.

It was 6-for-23 when Matthews forced a bad jumper, and Townes put Loyola up by four with a runner.

Seven different players already had made 3s for Villanova. Jalen Brunson, the AP national player of the year added 18 points, while Omari Spellman and Donte DiVincenzo each had 15. "We did everything the right way". And at 47-42 on Cameron Krutwig's layup with 9:19 remaining, the feeling that Cinderella would have one last dance on Monday evening was a prevalent and reasonable assumption. It is not anything to be joked around with.
