Day two of Starbucks protests

Two men in Starbucks were arrested for the most ridiculous reason and people are outraged

Johnson said he met with the Starbucks CEO and Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, but he was "not sold" on the actions Starbucks said it planned to take. I've been in Starbucks a number of times and occasionally used the restroom before ordering, and I've never had anyone challenge me.

Protests continued today at the Starbucks where the men were arrested, with crowds initially gathered outside only to be driven inside from heavy rains.

CEO Now Calling for "Unconscious Bias" Training.

In a subsequent tweet, Johnson said, "I applaud (district attorney) Larry Krasner for declining to prosecute these young men, and I am glad that Starbucks and the PPD recognize that there needs to be an investigation".

Exactly. While police might have enough leeway to determine that the situation wasn't as the manager reported, he/she still wanted the two men out of the store, and they were still refusing to leave while acting reasonably enough to generate sympathy among the witnesses.

Meanwhile, the manager at the cafe who originally called 911 made a decision to leave her position, according to the Inquirer.

Protests occurred outside of the Starbucks over the weekend and on Monday morning.

This comes after the NAACP called for the manager to be fired. Populations density plays a part too - it's a little easier for people to wait unnoticed inside a more crowded Starbucks in a place like New York City without paying and than it is in sparser locations where policies can be enforced more strictly. "You're just a figurehead, but we're going to get to those in power and we're going to make sure that we shut you down", a protester told Hymes in the KYW video.

Kevin Johnson released his statement on Starbucks' website late Saturday night, "with a goal of doing whatever we can to make things right", to "make any necessary changes to our practices that would help prevent such an occurrence from ever happening again" and "reassure you that Starbucks stands firmly against discrimination or racial profiling". "The Starbucks situation provides unsafe insight regarding the failure of our nation to take implicit bias seriously", the NAACP said.

The viral video of two black men being arrested inside a Philadelphia Starbucks has affected a cafe hundreds of miles away in Durham. The attorney for the two men, Lauren Wimmer, told the Philadelphia Inquirer she received word that the two were being released from custody at 12:30 a.m. Friday, almost eight hours after the initial 911 call. "There is no explanation for that", Saahene said. "This is a Starbucks".

When they refused to leave, she called police, and the men were arrested.
