Caster's reign may be ended by new IAAF rules

Caster Semenya of South Africa competes in Women’s 1500m Final at Carrara Stadium at Gold Coast, during 2018 Commonwealth Games April 10

Semenya's times were seemingly effected by these new measures but she still took gold at the London Olympics in 2012 after original 800m victor Mariya Savinova-Farnosova was later disqualified by Court of Arbitration for Sport after being found guilty of doping.

But Caster is not letting any of that get her down.

I am sure it will have implications on other sports and they will follow suit.

Many of the Caster's fans have also stepped up to defend the star, demanding that she be left alone.

Athletics authorities have sought struggled to find a solution to the issue that respected the rights of Semenya while also providing what they says is a "level playing field".

"Our evidence and data show that testosterone, either naturally produced or artificially inserted into the body, provides significant performance advantages in female athletes", said IAAF President Sebastian Coe.

In 2015, the Court of Arbitration for Sport put a temporary stop to the IAAF regulation after Indian sprinter Dutee Chand fought that she was being discriminated against for her condition.

On her Twitter account on Wednesday (Thursday NZT), Semenya did not comment but posted an image of the statement: "How handsome it is to stay silent when someone expects you to be enraged".

TCS: First $100 billion Indian company and more

The global athletics governing body has introduced new laws to regulate female athletes with differences in sexual development, specifically in middle distance races.

"As a federation, we will study the new regulations and compare them with the CAS recommendations to see if they are compatible and in line".

Under the new rules, which are expected to take effect in November 2018, female athletes with naturally higher testosterone levels will be required to take medication that would lower testosterone in their bodies.

"As the worldwide federation for our sport‚ we have a responsibility to ensure a level playing field for athletes".

Athletes will not be required to undergo surgery to lower their hormone levels, the IAAF said, adding that the regulations are "in no way intended as any kind of judgment on, or questioning of, the sex or the gender identity of any athlete". I don't think she even qualified for the Commonwealth Games.

South Africans were in an uproar on social media on Wednesday after news leaked that the IAAF were intending to take the dramatic step, and on Thursday the news was confirmed. "It seems to be dreadfully unfair to pick on Caster this way", RSA.MommaCyndi, reacted an online article by South Africa's The Sowetan on the new rules.

Female athletes with elevated testosterone levels will essentially face a "choice of no choice", Karkazis said.
