Cowboys QB Dak Prescott says Jason Witten will be missed

Dallas Cowboys' Jason Witten will reportedly retire, join ESPN on 'Monday Night Football'

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen the Cowboys all-time great TE is set to retire to pursue a career in broadcasting, linking up with ESPN's Monday Night Football crew. Monday Night Football is going to look entirely different for the upcoming NFL season, but so will the offensive side of the ball for the Cowboys after this shocking announcement. He and Tony Gonzalez, a first ballot Hall of Famer, are the only tight ends with at least 1,000 catches and 10,000 yards.

Witten would leave the Cowboys as the franchise leader in games played (239), receptions (1,152) and receiving yards (12,448). Recently the Cowboys cut longtime star receiver Dez Bryant.

If the arrangement is finalized, as expected, he will become the third former Cowboys player to work as a lead network broadcast analyst, joining Troy Aikman (Fox) and Tony Romo (CBS). He caught just 30 passes previous year, his lowest total since his rookie season.

But honestly, the Dallas Cowboys will never find a player like Jason Witten.

The Dallas Cowboys also have not met with any of the top tight ends in this draft class so their options have to feel somewhat limited at this point.

49ers trade Brown to Pats • The San Francisco 49ers have traded right tackle Trent Brown to the New England Patriots a day after drafting Mike McGlinchey as his replacement in the first round. The Cowboys are still armed with nine remaining draft picks to choose.

Brown is entering the final year of his contract and San Francisco drafted McGlinchey ninth overall to take his role. He spent his first four National Football League seasons with the Seahawks before signing as a free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015.

In 83 career games, Maxwell has 245 tackles (203 solo), 11 interceptions, 59 passes defensed and 11 forced fumbles.

The news was surprising to the world, but Witten has stated last season that he was thinking about retiring and spending more time with his family.

After being inactive for all 16 games as a rookie and constantly finding himself in head coach featured Bruce Arians' doghouse, Humphries showed more in his second and third seasons.
