Amber Rudd leaves government

Late Sunday, Amber Rudd resigned as Britain's home secretary following accusations that she lied to Parliament last week about deportation targets for illegal immigrants.

"That's why I am so personally committed to and invested in resolving the difficulties faced by the people of the Windrush generation who have built their lives here and contributed so much".

Shortly after the appointment, Javid told the BBC his "most urgent task" was making sure the Windrush generation was "treated with the decency and the fairness that they deserve".

The lead-up to Rudd's resignation illustrates the way May's work as Home Sec continues to impact her goals and policies as Prime Minister.

Javid was born in Rochdale, Lancashire as one of the five sons to Pakistani parents, who were born in pre-partition India and had fled to Pakistan and then emigrated to the United Kingdom in the 1960s.

Javid, 48, was a senior investment banker at Deutsche Bank before becoming a member of parliament in 2010.

Brokenshire served as immigration minister when May was home secretary.

He backed the losing Remain campaign in Britain's 2016 referendum on its European Union membership, but his pro-EU position was lukewarm.

Sajid Javid stands outside the Home Office after being named as Britain's home secretary on April 30.

Her departure now puts May in the firing line because the opposition in Britain is unlikely to keep quiet on the issue after Rudd's resignation.

Results soothe nerves over scandal-hit Facebook
Facebook said that the rules, known as the General Data Protection Regulation, could lead to a decline in use in Europe. Schroepfer said he "respectfully disagreed" with such characterizations.

Labour MP Barry Gardiner said it would be a "mistake" if Mr Javid did not abandon the government's targets on removing illegal immigrants. Others have been told by the government that they are in Britain illegally and must leave.

Speaking in a Westminster Hall debate he said: "This not about illegal immigration".

Members of the public want the Government to deal with people who have no right to be in the country, the Prime Minister insisted.

In recent weeks, Rudd and May have apologised repeatedly to the Windrush generation, saying all pre-1973 Commonwealth immigrants who don't already have British citizenship will get it, and those affected will get compensation. The scandal is also causing anxiety for the 3 million European Union citizens living in Britain who are concerned about their immigration status after the country leaves the EU next March.

Some have lost jobs and fallen into debt as they struggled to prove their status.

The signatories are predominantly Labour MPs but politicians from the Liberal Democrats, SNP, Plaid Cymru and the Green Party - as well as one Conservative - also feature.

Cabinet ministers are demanding an inquiry into how Whitehall leaks resulted in the "targeted killing" of Amber Rudd's leadership of the Home Office.

"She was presiding over, in her terms, the creation of a hostile environment", towards illegal immigration, he said.

In response, May said she believed Rudd had given her evidence to the House of Commons "in good faith" but that she understood her decision to resign and take "responsibility for inadvertently misleading the home affairs select committee".

The timing is a huge headache for May, coming amid tricky Brexit negotiations and just days ahead of local elections Thursday, with polls suggesting that the Conservative Party could face big losses. "It will undoubtedly play on some people's minds".
