Filmmaker Carlos Carvalho Dies In Accident While Shooting 'Wild At Heart'

Carlos Carvalho
SHOCKED Witnesses saying the killer blow came without warning

Award-winning filmmaker Carlos Carvalho has died after an on-set accident involving a giraffe in South Africa.

The giraffe, known as Gerald, is thought to have swung his neck and struck Mr Carvalho with his head while being filmed, causing Mr Carvalho to fly through the air and suffer head trauma, from which he ultimately died.

"When Carlos was standing in front of the giraffe, the animal spread its legs, bent its neck and swung its head at Carlos", Richard Brooker, whose family owns the lodge, told the Netwerk24 Afrikaans news website. "He did nothing wrong", Brooker added.

Mr Carvalho was filming at the Glen Afric farm in Broederstroom, about 64km from Johannesberg, when he "had a fatal run-in with a giraffe on set", according to filming agency CallaCrew.

Carvalho was flown from the location by helicopter to a hospital in Johannesburg, where he died Friday from his injuries, the Telegraph reported.

'The giraffe followed him but we didn't feel threatened because he just seemed to be inquisitive.
