A defiant Don Blankenship is firing back after President Donald Trump urged West Virginia voters to support two of the convicted ex-coal executive's opponents in the Republican U.S. Senate primary.

President Donald Trump weighed in on the West Virginia Senate race Monday, urging Republicans to remember a disastrous special election in Alabama and vote against controversial coal baron Don Blankenship.

The attacks delivered Mr. Blankenship's survey amounts rebounds, but with Mr. Jenkins and Mr. Morrisey dividing votes, " Mr. Blankenship has stayed in competition.

President Trump endorsed Ohio GOP Congressman Jim Renacci in his Senate bid after convincing him to switch from the governor's race and appeared with him over the weekend in the state.

In a television ad, Blankenship also stepped up his attacks on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., accusing him of creating "millions of jobs for China people".

West Virginia's attorney general has said he plans to notify a probation officer that GOP Senate candidate Don Blankenship violated the Ethics in Government Act by failing to file a form - but a federal prosecutor says the failure to file wouldn't have violated the terms of Blankenship's supervised release from prison. He spent much of the event taking aim at Manchin while being flanked on either side by Jenkins and Morrisey. "We need to win in November", the younger Trump tweeted.

Standing in the backroom of an empty restaurant, Morrisey struck a dire tone with the dozen or so supporters who came out to see him: "This race has changed a lot". Moore lost a deep red seat to Democrat Doug Jones, thinning Republican's majority in the U.S. Senate to the current 51-49 margin. Luther Strange in the primary because he knew Moore couldn't win.

GOP operatives in D.C. are concerned Blankenship might have a hard time beating Sen. He won the state in the 2016 election by 42 percentage points.

Blankenship argued that neither Jenkins or Morrisey could beat Manchin without his support, but he would prevail over the Democratic stalwart "even without the support of the establishment".

"Swamp captain Mitch McConnell has created millions of jobs for China people", Blankenship said in the ad Politico first reported.

"I think it could be misunderstood - people love Trump's policies and his commitment to West Virginia, they don't necessarily love individuals".

"His family is very powerful in China and very powerful in the United States", Blankenship added, saying that he's "not going to DC to get along".

"No way!" Trump said in his tweet.

"We have a three-alarm fire in West Virginia", Republican strategist Ford O'Connell told Newsweek.
