Chris Matthews: Mitch McConnell has 'no right' to fill Supreme Court vacancy

US Supreme Court Upholds Trump's Travel Ban

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement Wednesday, giving President Donald Trump the chance to cement conservative control of the high court.

The Supreme Court is an institution that shapes America.

"You are seeing these justices not just on the Supreme Court, the circuit court and other federal court appointees that are not just conservative but they are also younger and I think that's important", Spicer said. The last thing the large group of Democratic senators running in pro-Trump states need right now is a vote that could either infuriate the GOP's right-to-life base or discourage anti-Trump Democratic voters.

Justice Kennedy's retirement gives Republicans the opportunity to fulfill their promise to install a majority on the court that would overturn these decisions. Control of the Senate is at stake in the November elections, and if Democrats capture the majority, Trump could find it hard to get his choice confirmed.

Democrats were left irate in 2016, after a Republican-majority Senate refused to vote on Barack Obama's 2016 nominee Merrick Garland.

The court legalized abortion with its decision in Roe v. Wade in 1973.

They have drawn twice in group stage games, and their last-16 match in the 1990 World Cup saw England win 1-0 after extra-time. Kane is leading the scoring charts at the World Cup in Russian Federation after five goals in just two games.

Soon after he was sworn into office in 2017, Trump nominated Judge Neil Gorsuch to succeed the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who had died a year earlier.

Majority Whip John Cornyn of Texas a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, told reporters Wednesday that Democrats can't block the nominee. "I'm optimistic we'll be able to get this done".

"One is whether the president has an authority to say that there are countries that whose visa vetting systems we don't trust and therefore we're not going to allow people to come in, and another whether it's a good idea".

Kennedy was nominated in 1987 by President Reagan to the court, after Robert Bork's nomination failed and Douglas Ginsburg was pressured to withdraw after questions were raised about his admission he had smoked marijuana several times.

Abortion is likely to be one of the flash points in the nomination fight.
