'Black Day': Shehbaz Sharif condemns Avenfield reference verdict against Nawaz, Maryam

LONDON: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has announced to return to Pakistan after his wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz regains consciousness.

Nawaz was further fined eight million pound sterling and Maryam was slapped with a two million pound fine.

Experts believe that it is a very significant political development as general elections in Pakistan will be held this month.

"This decision is based on injustice".

Nawaz Sharif was ousted from his third term as prime minister by the Supreme Court past year following a corruption investigation. Sharif's family insisted that they had purchased the apartments with "legitimate" financial resources but were unable to disclose those resources before either the accountability court or the Supreme Court.

Sharif, who is in London, was sentenced in absentia.

"We reject this decision", Shahbaz Sharif told a televised press conference in Lahore shortly after the verdict. Maryam's husband retired Captain Safdar was sentenced to a year in prison.

Mr. Nawaz Sharf, a three-time Prime Minister, was removed as head of the Pakistan Mulsim League-Nawaz (PML-N) by the Election Commission following his disqualification by the Supreme Court.

Messi's disappointments with Argentina
I'm not like those who moan about having little teams at these competitions - for me that's what the World Cup is all about. Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli insists he is deciding team selection and tactics, and not Lionel Messi .

Sharif has previously described the court proceedings against him as politically motivated and a judicial witchhunt.

To a question about return of Maryam Nawaz, Nawaz Sharif said she is more desperate to return to Pakistan.

Pakistan's military, which has ruled the nuclear-armed country for nearly half its history, denies involvement in civilian politics.

Sharif has a history of conflict with the military even though his political career was initially nurtured by military dictator Zia ul-Haq in the 1980s.

Sharif has argued that the military, in cahoots with top judges, has used cases against him and party members to tip the scales in favor of cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan ahead of the election.

Prosecution lawyer Sardar Muzaffar Abbas also said that the court had ordered the properties, in London's exclusive Mayfair, be confiscated by the federal government.

Journalists and activists have spoken of pressure by the military to censor positive coverage of the PML-N campaign amid allegations of a "silent coup".
