LA City Councilman Calls for End to ICE

Ronald Vitiello

The new liberal rallying cry raises more questions than it answered.

The common vein running through the Nutter and Kenney administrations is "Occupy", the catch-all descriptor for many progressive-led protests throughout the country.

But the pushback from the White House doesn't appear to be stopping the "abolish ICE' movement from picking up vocal support". It's short enough to fit on a bumper sticker - as does "Build the Wall", or "Abolish the IRS". Now, it is time to do what Americans overwhelmingly want: abolish the cruel, dysfunctional immigration system we have today and pass comprehensive immigration reform. The party's position on immigration is unrecognizable to some Democrats.

Finally, local police also fear the community will stop reporting and cooperating with crime-fighting efforts if police and ICE become indistinguishable. Republican Diane Harkey, a former state legislator who serves on the state's tax board, is vying against Democrat Mike Levin, an environmental lawyer. "A decision between security or compassionate immigration policy is a false choice; we can have them both, and I promise to fight for that as Governor".

The call to abolish ICE previously was limited to extreme open-border advocates.

Trump blamed Democrats for not being supportive of the country's Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, which helps patrol the border.

Trump also linked his defense of ICE to his frequent brandishing of the threat posed by MS-13 gangs - and returned to using charged language comparing them to an infestation of insects.

"What are they going to replace it with-nothing or another agency that has to perform the same function that they don't like?" asked Nicole Rodriguez, 45.

Trump told the crowd that the governor had asked him to speak and that he accepted in part because Justice, elected in 2016 as a Democrat, switched to the Republican Party a year ago.

O'Rourke: No, they they're not wrong, and I think abolishing these practices and casting a light on these abuses and practices in our country, making sure that there's accountability and justice and that we change these policies through our laws is important. Deputy Commissioner of Special Operations Dennis Wilson said, "We are protecting their right to protest as well as trying to keep the streets open and trying access to this building".

Cavani double for Uruguay sends Portugal and Ronaldo packing
Uruguay and Portugal will face each other in what is expected to be a highly-contested match on Saturday. Portugal: Portugal are well prepared and hopeful of delivering a big performance against Uruguay .

Trump urged ICE agents to "not worry or lose your spirit", adding: "The radical left Dems want you out".

However, the immigration issue is a tricky one in this area and cuts several different ways politically.

The GOP was badly divided over Trump's policy to end deportation protection for DREAMers - immigrants in the country illegally who were brought to the USA when they were children - and his now-reversed practice of separating children from their parents at the border. But if a new poll is correct, it appears the Trump administration, after an enormously damaging few weeks, has ended up squarely on the side of the majority of American voters. "We don't need "family-friendly" cages".

Penn's polling found other results favorable to the Trump approach to immigration. Many lawmakers privately agree with these boosters.

The memo, obtained by The Daily Beast concluded that "abolishing ICE without changing President Trump's disastrous immigration policy will not solve the problem".

Sen. Joe Manchin III, D-W.Va., is one of three red-state Democrats who voted past year to confirm Trump's first Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, and who Republicans hope will support this nominee. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., said she sees a need to reexamine enforcement. To that end, 80 percent (84 percent of Republicans, 79 percent of Democrats, and 78 percent of independents) favored hiring more immigration judges "to process people in custody faster".

Is the debate over ICE's existence worth having? It employs more than 20,000 people.

The Oakland Police Department repeatedly confirmed that this was not an immigration raid, rather they were investigating child sex-trafficking in that house.

"We should be prioritizing the protection of families and our borders in a humane and thoughtful way".
