The Morning Brew: Mom who confronted Pruitt reacts to his departure

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt walks during an Independence Day picnic for military families on the South Lawn of the White House

But at the same time, Pruitt was one of the most effective implementers of the President's agenda.

Yet, were many of these Republicans not facing a tough Congressional election this year, it's unclear how long the embarrassing scandals would have continued to pile up. He said EPA Deputy Administrator Andrew Wheeler will become acting EPA chief on Monday.

If Trump takes his time in nominating a replacement and the Senate takes its time reviewing a replacement, EPA might not have a Senate-confirmed administrator until well into 2019.

In his appearance before the Senate committee, Wheeler pledged to recuse himself from any EPA decision-making that conflicted with his work for coal companies or other industries.

He also touted what he called "improved environmental outcomes as well as historical regulatory reform" that was "occurring at an unprecedented pace" during his tenure at the agency. He said Wheeler is a lobbyist who went "to bat for the very industries he's now being asked to regulate".

Finally, it revealed Wheeler had criticized the president back during the campaign, calling him a "bully" questioning his character and saying Trump had "more baggage than all of the other Republican candidates combined".

"But the activists doubted that the departure, announced by President Trump via Twitter, would change the administration's policies". Lawmakers posed tough questions on a range of issues also including raises for top aides and reports of retaliation against EPA whistleblowers.

The Environmental Working Group, a public health and environment watchdog, called Pruitt "unquestionably the worst head of the agency in its 48-year history". Wheeler acknowledged he attended but said he couldn't remember any details.

Green groups expressed the same sentiment in response to Pruitt's resignation on Thursday.

Pop the champagne - at long last Scott Pruitt, the controversial and destructive leader of the EPA has resigned!

"Within the Agency Scott has done an outstanding job, and I will always be thankful to him for this", he added.

Scott Pruitt, a former trustee of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, resigned as EPA administrator July 5. "That was the position he was originally interested in". In Washington, he worked relentlessly to dismantle Obama-era environmental regulations that aimed to reduce toxic pollution and planet-warming carbon emissions.

Early Success in Artificial Ovary Research
For most patients the procedure is safe, but certain cancers, such as ovarian or leukaemia, can invade the ovarian tissue itself. They then implanted ovarian follicles or immature egg cells on the artificially engineered scaffold of ovarian tissue.

The statement stands in contrast to the first remarks Pruitt made to his staff, which focused on reigning in regulations. Those groups quickly applauded his departure.

In a tweet Thursday afternoon, Trump said he had accepted the resignation of the beleaguered EPA chief. Ethics accusations against Pruitt also involved him giving his wife a job at the Republican Attorneys General Association with a salary of United States dollars 200,000.

Scott Dworkin, co-founder of the Democratic Coalition: "Someone needs to make sure Scott Pruitt doesn't smuggle his $43,000 soundproof phone booth out of the EPA offices".

He demanded 24-hour-a-day protection from armed officers, resulting in a swollen 20-member security team that blew through overtime budgets and racked up expenses of more than $3 million.

Pruitt routinely ordered his EPA staff to do personal chores for him, including picking up his dry cleaning and trying to obtain a used Trump hotel mattress for his apartment.

"Pruitt was wasting money while not doing the job that the head of the EPA should do", McKinny said.

The EPA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Likewise, Pruitt's resignation letter was equally as glowing toward the president.

The path could lead him back to Washington.

Bennett says the dynamic of the voting public has changed since Pruitt's reign as the state's attorney general.

"We're proud of him for that", Pollard said. "And I would love to return to that".

"Going from a train wreck to a house on fire doesn't give us comfort", Deans says.
