A Federer-Nadal 2018 Wimbledon final? Novak Djokovic hasn’t seen the script

TENNIS-GBR-WIMBLEDON

Federer took his tally of consecutive sets won on London's hallowed lawns to 32 with a 6-0 7-5 6-4 dispatch of risky French left-hander Adrian Mannarino.

Angelique Kerber converted her seventh match point to finally get past Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 7-5 and reach the Wimbledon semifinals for the third time. The reprieve was only momentary for Hsieh, as Cibulkova regained her composure to break and take the first set, 6-4.

Federer, who last went to Court One in 2015 for his quarter-final win over Gilles Simon, will be playing in his 16th Wimbledon quarter-final and 53rd at all Grand Slams.

An eight-time victor of the men's singles at the All England Club, Federer was an overwhelming favorite against the 22nd seed and never looked like falling victim to a huge upset.

With world number one Rafael Nadal waiting for the victor, Tuesday's fourth set, played in much cooler conditions than the first three the day before, turned into a mini-epic before Del Potro eventually prevailed 7-6 (1) 7-6 (5) 5-7 7-6 (5). His only other quarterfinals appearance was at the 2011 US Open.

It is the first time in Wimbledon history not one of the top 10 women's seeds have reached the quarterfinals.

When they came back out on Tuesday, Del Potro completed a 7-6 (7-1) 7-6 (7-5) 5-7 7-6 (7-5) victory on Court Two, but only after sealing the win with his fifth match point.

Del Potro, whose best run at the All England Club saw him reach the semi-finals in 2013, triumphed 7-6 (7/1) 7-6 (7/5) 5-7 7-6 (7/5) to set up a last-eight meeting with Rafael Nadal.

Beaten by Serena in the 2016 final, Kerber takes on Russian 14th seed Daria Kasatkina, a 6-7 (6/8), 6-3, 6-2 victor against Belgian world number 47 Alison Van Uytvanck.

Later seven-time champion Serena Williams faces 52nd-ranked Camila Giorgi of Italy, and 13th-seeded Julia Goerges faces Kiki Bertens as the pair both play in their first Wimbledon quarterfinal. Yaaaas.ICC also posted superimposed pictures of Federer and Sachin Tendulkar in Spiderman costumes.

Federer will play South Africa's Kevin Anderson in the quarter-final at the All England Club on Wednesday.

Rodina, who upset 10th-seeded Madison Keys in the previous round, broke back for 3-2 in the second set but was broken to love straight away.

It was very dark when they finished.

Should No. 103 Mackenzie McDonald defeat former runner-up Milos Raonic later Monday, it will be the first time since 2000 that two men outside the top 100 have made the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

The 32-year-old looks refreshed following his decision to pull out of Queen's and now, unlike Del Potro, has had the benefit of a day off.
