A sign hangs outside the Kellogg's factory near Manchester, Britain March 7, 2016.

The agency says it found salmonella in samples of Honey Smacks, which has been subject to a voluntary recall by Kellogg since mid-June. The company voluntarily recalled the cereal last month, but the FDA says it's apparently still on grocery shelves and in kitchen cupboards, reports CNN.

The Centers for Disease Control is warning customers not to eat Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal after the breakfast was linked to 100 salmonella infections nationwide.

Kelloggs voluntarily began recalling the cereal in June. No deaths have been reported.

The recall effort follows other prominent salmonella outbreaks, including one linked to pre-cut melon from an facility in Indianapolis that sickened 70 people and another connected to eggs from a single North Carolina producer where 45 people were made sick. "The FDA has learned that some retailers are still selling this product".

The CDC now advises that anyone who has purchased the cereal return it for a refund or throw it out completely regardless of an expiration date. But the cereal is still being sold in some stores.

Use or consumption of products contaminated with salmonella can result in serious illness, including fatal infections, fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, especially for young, frail or elderly people, according to the CDC. The 15.3 oz. package's UPC code is 3800039103 and the 23 oz. package's UPC code is 3800014810.
