Novak Djokovic beats fading light and Karen Khachanov to reach Wimbledon quarters

Three times Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic was a man on a mission after the former world number one beat Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-2 on Wednesday to reach the semi-finals for the eighth time.

Three-time champion Novak Djokovic has eased past Karen Khachanov in straight sets to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals for a 10th time.

Friday's fixture will be Djokovic's first major semi-final since he finished runner-up at the 2016 U.S. Open, which also happens to be the last Grand Slam in which Nishikori made it past the last eight. Scot Murray, 32 - who triumphed here past year alongside Martina Hingis - and former singles world No.1 Azarenka moved into the quarter-finals with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 win over Matwe Middelkoop and Johanna Larsson. Indignation that his desire to close on the grand-slam total of Rafael Nadal and, who knows, even Roger Federer, has been put on hold for so long. After agonizing quarterfinal defeats at the French Open and Australian Open this year, Djokovic exercised the demons.

Djokovic had four break points in the first two service games alone and suffered a Wimbledon meltdown as he bounced his racket off the ground, argued with the umpire, and then went on to lose the second set. During Wimbledon, speaking of the big event that is taking place in Russian Federation, in which his country, Serbia, failed to go beyond the group stages, Djokovic said: 'I support Croatia.

And Nishikori broke in front when a Djokovic drop shot caught the net, as the 24th seed kicked on to draw level in the match.

Djokovic was able to regain his composure, though, and managed to win by four sets to one. Like Djokovic, Nishikori does things on his own terms - he walks between points, scuffing his feet, and on receiving balls ahead of serve, if the distribution was slightly off he would not take a step left nor right to collect it.

What are England fans singing?
Former EastEnders star Harry Reid posted about both the World Cup game and Pride London, taking place on the same day. The Three Lions was originally released for the European Championships in 1996 when it topped the charts.

"I like the level of tennis that I'm playing on right now". Nishikori did the same in the fourth set and he didn't get a warning.

"I was really glad to play Queen's and to get five matches there".

It will be Djokovic's first semifinal Wimbledon appearance since 2015.

For the only the second time at Wimbledon, Federer was beaten after holding a two-set lead, with his previous loss from that position coming against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the 2011 quarterfinals. "I think with the performances I've had, I deserve to be in the semi-finals".

"It motivates me to do extremely well here because I don't want to sit here and explain my loss".

"Post-match I heard that the organisers were planning to cancel my match if Monfils and Anderson went to a fifth".
