Trump asked aide to invite Putin to Washington, White House says

The Latest: Putin says US-Russia summit was successful - AP News - Breaking News

The invitation was announced hours after the president tweeted that he looked forward to "our second meeting" as he defended his performance Monday at the summit in which the two leaders conferred on a range of issues, including terrorism, Israeli security, nuclear proliferation and North Korea.

"The sentence should have been, 'I don't see any reason why I wouldn't, or why it wouldn't be Russian Federation'". They are pushing so recklessly hard and hate the fact that I'll probably have a good relationship with Putin.

"We're doing very well, probably as well as anybody has ever done with Russian Federation".

While many people remain horrified by Trump's relationship with Russian Federation, the president continues to tweet about the success of the Summit and even hinted at a second one.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., a Trump ally, acknowledged Thursday that Trump has had a "bad week" on Russian Federation.

The videos showed that several of the new weapons systems, which were publicly unveiled by Mr Putin for the first time during a sabre-rattling campaign speech in March, are not works of science fiction - as some observers have mocked - but relatively far along in development. I think we've all been foolish. But he says Trump "is not making the problem better, he's making it worse".

At the press conference Monday after the summit, Trump appeared to take Putin's word that Russian Federation didn't meddle in the 2016 presidential election.

Putin then warned that progress was jeopardized by the uproar in the US over the meeting, lambasting Trump's opponents and critics of the summit and accusing them of undermining the summit for their own political ends.

Despite his attempt at damage control over the reaction in Washington, Mr Trump has continued to insist that his meeting with Mr Putin was something to be proud of and has now said that he is anticipating another summit.

During an interview with CBS News Wednesday, Trump said he has "no confidence" in Clapper, and the former DNI told CNN Thursday morning he finds that to be a "badge of honor".

That rhetoric marked a turnabout from Trump's first, upbeat description of the sit-down.

Russia's ambassador to the U.S., Anatoly Antonov, expressed hope Thursday that "the verbal agreements between Putin and Trump will be fulfilled".

President Trump Has Muddled Message on Russian Meddling
Later that evening Trump was on CBS for an interview and said Putin was only to blame "because he's in charge of the country". When asked if Russian Federation was continuing to target the US, Trump shook his head and said "No".

Having Donald Trump in the White House is looking increasingly like a liability for the Kremlin, rather than an asset.

The zigzagging laid bare the White House's search for a path out of trouble that has dogged the administration's discussions of Russian Federation from the start, but spiraled after Trump's trip to Helsinki. Jeff Glor: "But you haven't condemned Putin specifically".

Trump later refined and sharpened his response.

"There is no doubt about the Russian side's ability and readiness to fulfil the results of this summit, but there is doubt regarding the American side, and it not is connected to things President Trump personally wants to achieve or avoid", he said.

Trump's remarks come ahead of a scheduled July 25 visit to Washington by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker to discuss "a wide range of priorities" with the US president, including a "focus on improving transatlantic trade".

But at a later news briefing, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the president was saying "no" to answering questions not to the question itself. He also says Russian interference with the election had nothing to do with his surprise victory and that his staff never colluded with foreign intelligence.

Sanders said Trump was still weighing the offer with his team, adding, "We've committed to nothing".

A number of senators are swiftly signing on to a bipartisan bill from Sens. "That was key to this conclusion that Putin had directly ordered the intervention in the election". "It's called Trump Derangement Syndrome!" the president wrote.

Two other lawmakers, Sens.

So the anger is all about the 2016 election?

A similar House vote Tuesday failed on a party-line vote.

"I thought it would be obvious but I would like to clarify just in case it wasn't".
