Officer Helps Homeless Man Shave, So He Can Apply For Job

Hired!: Cop shaves homeless man to help him land job at McDonald's

Officer Tony Carlson was called to the near of the Circle K convenience store, but when he pulled into the gas station parking lot he found a homeless man named Phil trying to shave his beard, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

The homeless man, identified only as "Phil", was told he could get a job at a local McDonald's restaurant. While he was fixing the razor, Phil told the officer he had the opportunity to get a job at McDonald's if he showed up Monday with a clean shave.

"As I got out of my vehicle, he asked if I knew anything about fixing a razor because it was broken", Tallahassee officer Tony Carlson told news outlet Click Orlando.

Officer Tony Carlson didn't know it, but when he was taking a razor to the man's facial stubble on Sunday, someone was using a cellphone to record his good deed.

Officer Carlson said other officers do this sort of thing all the time but don't get the attention, but he hopes others are inspired by the kind act.

The post has been shared more than 1,000 times on Facebook, with numerous comments praising Officer Carlson's act of kindness.

Carlson doesn't feel like he did anything spectacular.

"I wish I could have done more", Carlson said.

"He seemed excited about [the job] ... if he's wanting to help himself, I need to help him out the best I can", Carlson said in a video posted to the Police Department's Facebook page. She explains her daughter went inside the store and encountered Officer Carlson, who was cleaning himself up.

"This happens all the time".

'He's trying to start shaving, and he didn't have a mirror, couldn't see what he was was not going well, ' Carlson said. I like to think of us more as peace officers first, law enforcement officers second.

'One of his comments was that I should be a barber'. "You want to do something with a positive ending, and something that's going to last".
