John Kelly Allegedly To Stay In Job Through 2020

Mike Pence speaks to Fox News

Citing unnamed White House officials, the Journal said Kelly was responding to Trump's request that he stay through 2020.

Kelly began as chief of staff in late July past year, taking over for Reince Priebus.

John Kelly got the official news of his promotion a year ago the same way a select few in the Trump administration have - by presidential tweet.

"Congratulations to General John Kelly".

For months, Kelly had told those close to him that his goal was simply to make it to the year mark in his post, a milestone he passed over the weekend.

The best photos of the weekend's lunar eclipse and blood moon
Many, especially Hindus, completed their dinner early by 8 pm on Friday and ate nothing till the eclipse came to an end. The planetarium had organised a "Moon Carnival" and set up special telescopes for people to experience the phenomenon.

Kelly is telling staffers that he had agreed to stay on. A Fox News interview in which Kelly suggested that Trump's thinking on his signature border wall was evolving was an early flash point, followed by the fallout from the Porter controversy.

Gabriel Sherman, who had previously documented Kelly's misery and ineffectiveness in some detail, has a theory that he's actually getting his revenge on Trump by sticking around, since POTUS wants him to quit but is reluctant to fire him.

Andy Card, chief of staff under George W. Bush, served for a little over five years.

Kelly has often joked publicly about how working for Trump is the hardest job he's ever had, including those on the battlefield.

The former Marine Corps general succeeded in imposing some changes, such as limiting who could meet with the president, but eventually saw his stature decline as Trump bucked his efforts to implement greater control. It's a one-man show and no one is getting in the way of Trump's delusion that he's nailing it on a daily basis. "He's a wonderful man", Mr. Trump added at the time.
