Elderly men escape from nursing home for German heavy metal festival

Wacken Open Air 2018

According to Itzehoe police, the pair was eventually found Friday at 3 a.m. local time at the festival after their retirement home in Dithmarscher reported them missing.

The nursing home had already alerted police to their disappearance. But this year's festival also featured a couple of on-the-run metalheads who were clearly enticed by a stunning bill of bands. Wacken Open Air is one of the biggest heavy metal festivals in the world.

'The care home quickly organized a return transport after police picked them up'.

The Metro reported that the ageing metal heads were reluctant to leave the party so police had to send them home in a taxi, escorted by a police vehicle.

The pensioners were reluctant to go when they were found in the crowd at 3am.

Police said in a press release that officers in a patrol auto spotted the men, "who were apparently intrigued with the metal festival".

Elderly people are presumed to enjoy the peace and quiet.

Wacken Open Air responded: "Seriously?"
