California fire officials contradict Trump’s claim about water shortage amid wildfire

Smoke from the Ferguson fire fills Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park California

The Mendocino fires are spreading so far they're now the biggest in the region's history.

The Mendocino Complex fire is reportedly growing by thousands of acres daily and has surpassed the state's Thomas fire past year, which set ablaze more than 281,000 acres in California.

"Unfortunately, they're not going to get a break anytime soon", National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Hurley said of firefighters who had cut buffer lines around 30 percent of the blaze.

Ayeta is the seventh person to die in the destructive fire burning for two weeks near Redding.

Elsewhere across the state, firefighters are working to put out more than a dozen other fires that have killed several people, ravaged thousands of acres, and sparked air quality alerts.

Trump, in a tweet on Sunday evening, blamed the intensifying fires on "bad environmental laws" that he said divert water resources into the Pacific Ocean.

The soldiers have not been assigned to a specific fire yet, Manning said.

The San Antonio Fire Department said it is preparing to send a crew to Northern California to help first responders with the Carr Fire.

Manatee in distress from signs of red tide exposure taken to SeaWorld
The newspaper, calling the algae outbreak a "crisis", says the suspected cause of death is red tide poisoning. Pelicans, manatees and a whale shark have also washed ashore since this unprecedented bloom started.

The weather forecast for the week ahead is not encouraging: very hot and very dry, the ideal conditions for the fires to expand.

The fires in Northern California have created such a haze of smoke in the Central Valley that Sacramento County health officials advised residents to avoid outdoor activities for the entire week. "Despite personal loss in many cases, they've managed to not only keep open the Outpatient Clinic's doors, but travel deep into the community to ensure displaced veterans are receiving the care they need and deserve".

Collectively dubbed the Mendocino Complex, the wildfires have burned through 283,800 acres (114,850 hectares) - an area almost the size of the sprawling city of Los Angeles - and are just 30 percent contained, according to state fire authority CalFire. Both fires began on July 27, according to Cal Fire.

Another major wildfire is tearing through California and it's growing at a phenomenal pace.

Although the Mendocino Complex Fire is record-setting for California, it does seem to be following a trend of increasingly massive and risky fires.

More than 11,000 structures are threatened.

The Department of Defense has also provided five aircraft to aid in fighting the wildfires, four C-130 cargo planes outfitted with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems and an RC-26 surveillance plane, being used to monitor and map wildfires, Manning said.

His missive drew exasperated sighs from many including authorities at CalFire: "We have plenty of water to fight these wildfires", Daniel Berlant, the agency's assistant deputy director, told The New York Times.
