Parkland shooter said he heard a demon in his head, transcript shows

Metal Detector Installation Delayed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School

The man alleged to have shot dead 17 people in the Parkland Florida school massacre had heard demons ordering him to "burn, kill, destroy", police transcripts released Monday showed.

Metal detectors will not be installed for the start of classes at a Florida high school where 17 students and faculty were slain on Valentine's Day.

Secondly, the school district "did not follow through" when Cruz requested to return to the Cross Creek therapeutic school for disabled students, the report states.

A judge entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf during his arraignment in March.

"What does your voice say to you?" The document also details a meeting Cruz had with his younger brother. "The voice is in here and then it's me, it's just regular me, just trying to be a good person".

The report notes that Broward school officials did not accurately state Cruz's options when he was about to be removed from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School - where he ultimately killed 17 people. "Just (expletive) kill me".

Runcie said the board always meant to eventually release the entire Cruz report. "You're all going to die".

At a later time, he allegedly remarked, "I want to die". While authorities had previously said Cruz acknowledged that "he was the gunman who entered the school campus. and began shooting students", the newly-released transcript shows for the first time much of what he told police the day of the February 14 massacre and sheds light on his state of mind after the bloodshed.

In the past, Runcie said that when Cruz turned 18 and rejected special education placement, the district could no longer provide him with the services given to students with emotional and behavioral disabilities.

Curcio asked: 'The voice didn't tell you to take Uber, right?'

"Burn. Kill. Destroy", he replied.

Cruz told investigators he was depressed about everything, including his mother passing away.

"I hear demons ... a voice, demon voice", Cruz reportedly said, purportedly telling Curcio that the voice commanded that Cruz hurt people on the night leading up to the mass killing.

"You could have stopped the demon by getting a prescription for marijuana".

Det. John Curcio: "You're talking about demons".

If you are anxious about your or someone else's mental health, the best place to get help is your GP or local mental health provider.

Cruz became defensive of those accusations, and told the detective over and over, "I don't like the demon", before asking for an attorney and ending the interrogation. "Why didn't he kill me?" he repeated over and over.

The board's filing says the newspaper "opted to report, publicly, information that this court had ordered to be redacted despite agreeing, on the record, that this information was protected by Florida and federal law".

The teenager went on to say that he had tried to kill himself twice before the massacre because the voice had told him to.

On Feb. 8, 2017, three months after choosing to attempt to complete his degree at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Cruz's failing grades forced him to withdraw from the school.
