Man arrested after crashing car into UK Parliament

Armed police on Tuesday morning raced to London's Houses of Parliament after reports a vehicle had crashed into security barriers.

The suspect, who has not been named, was arrested by armed police carrying rifles after the silver Ford Fiesta appeared to be deliberately driven at pedestrians in Westminster.

Several people have been injured after a vehicle collided with the barriers outside the outside the UK Houses of Parliament in London on Tuesday morning.

The scene has been cordoned off, with the cordon widening as more police, including counter terrorism officers, arrive on the scene.

Police said they could not immediately say whether it was a terrorism-related incident or not but the counter-terrorism command is leading the investigation.

Sky News video showed a man being arrested after the incident on Tuesday.

Police said they arrested the male driver, though no further details were provided.

Two people were hurt, but authorities said none of the injuries were life-threatening.

The decision not to elevate the threat level followed a meeting of the government's emergency committee Tuesday.

Since that attack, steel and concrete crash barriers have been improved outside the Houses of Parliament.

In March 2017, Khalid Masood killed four people on Westminster Bridge just outside the parliament building, before going on to stab an unarmed police officer to death in the parliament grounds.

British Prime Minister Theresa May, now on holiday in Switzerland, tweeted that her "thoughts are with those injured in the incident in Westminster".

President Donald Trump tweeted about the incident too, slamming the "animals" behind it and demanding that it be met with "toughness and strength".

Eyewitness Ewelina U. Ochab told CNN she saw the incident take place from the other side of the pavement.

British police say the crash appears to be deliberate.

"The police said we have to move back, then in less than five minutes the response team came".
