Architect of bin Laden raid issues stunning rebuke of Trump

John Brennan and Donald Trump

When the White House made the Brennan announcement Wednesday, it also said it was looking at the clearances of nine other former Obama administration national-security officials, Adm. McRaven not among them.

"It's nearly as if the president is connecting the dots for Robert Mueller", Jake Tapper said.

"Mr Trump's claims of no collusion are, in a word, hogwash", he said. Trump said in the interview, a full transcript of which was not immediately published by the newspaper.

Brennan, whose criticisms of Trump have escalated in recent months, wrote that the president was "desperate" to end the Russian Federation investigation.

She said the decision was not motivated by politics or Brennan's criticism of the president.

Trump on Wednesday openly tied his decision to strip Brennan of his clearance - and threaten almost a dozen other former and current officials - to the ongoing investigation into Russian election meddling and possible collusion with his campaign.

The initial White House statement about Brennan's clearance made no reference to the Russian Federation investigation. Trump's statement, distributed to reporters, was dated July 26, 2018, suggesting it could have been held and then released when needed to change a damaging subject. Trump said he is reviewing security clearances for the eight individuals pictured.

Trump signs defense bill named for John McCain
The president said the defense policy measure signals that the U.S.is "on the move once again and we are not backing down". He said the Chinese military has launched a new military division to oversee its warfighting programs in space.

Senate Democrats were much more openly critical.

Mr Brennan sought to reassure his "Irish brothers and sisters" that the U.S. is a strong country, but at the moment President Trump is "not upholding the image and reputation of what it means to be an American president. we're gonna get there but we have some rough waters to navigate", he said. Bruce Ohr, a Justice Department official now in the criminal division, was also on the White House list.

Ohr was friends with Steele, the former British intelligence officer commissioned by an American political research firm to explore Trump's alleged ties with the Russian government. "I will not relent", Brennan tweeted after the announcement.

In announcing Comey's firing, the White House initially cited the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director's handling of the probe into Democratic rival Clinton's emails, seizing on the Federal Bureau of Investigation director's decision to divulge details of the probe to the public during her campaign against Trump.

He told the Journal he doesn't trust "many of those people on that list" and thinks "they're very duplicitous" and "not good people". "I don't know why they give them security clearances anyway other than maybe a transition period", Shelby added.

Several Republicans also weighed in, with Sen.
