Bomb threat: In South America urgently boarded eight planes

Chile Man angry over suitcase behind wave of bomb threats

Chilean police said Friday they had arrested two people for making bomb threats that forced the grounding of nine commercial flights the day before.

Part of the aircraft belong to the South American airline LATAM, other Chilean Sky Airlines.

Chile's civil aviation agency said all three planes were inspected and it was determined there were no explosives on board.

Victor Villalobos Collao, director of Chile's civilian aviation authority, said on Thursday night that a total of 11 calls had been received threatening flights on various airlines. The flights were operated by LATAM Airlines, Latin America's largest carrier, and Sky Airlines. He said no explosives had been found.

Police said they arrested Franco Sepulveda Robles, 29, in the northern Chilean city of Antofagasta after investigators linked his cellphone to the wave of threats that disrupted flights.
