Injured in Paris Knife Attack; Terrorism Not Suspected

Red and white tape used by the French national police

It comes less than 12 hours after a man, reportedly an Afghan national, attacked people with a knife and an iron bar at two separate locations in Paris.

He was later overpowered and disarmed by other witnesses at the scene, police said.

That attack came days after an Afghan asylum-seeker was arrested in town of Perigueux for a drunken rampage with a knife in which four people were wounded, one seriously.

Lobbing them in their dozens at the attacker and whacking him on the head with a wooden plank, they managed to bring the horror that befell the 19th district on Sunday night to an end. A witness at the scene hit the attacker with a petanque ball, police said.

Men who were playing petanque in the area hurled a steel ball at the knifeman to try and stop him.

Police continued searching for clues at the site of a knife attack in Paris that left seven people injured.

French police investigate the scene where a man attacked and injured people with a knife in the streets of Paris on September 9, 2018.

The Foreign Office said: 'We are urgently investigating this incident and are in close contact with the French authorities'.

The attacker is in custody, and the event is not believed to be terror related.

Four of the injured are known to be in serious conditions in hospital. He said that terrorist motives were not suspected at this stage of the investigation. The man had initially stabbed two men and a woman near the MK2 cinema.

Paris has suffered a number of militant attacks since November 2015, when a series of coordinated strikes by Islamist gunmen and suicide bombers killed 129 people in the capital, an assault planned by the Islamic State and its adherents.
