Henry Cavill reportedly out as Superman in DC movies

Man of Steel- Superman

Deadline goes on to reiterate what THR said, that Warner Bros.is now focused on launching a Supergirl movie, which means that the next onscreen appearance from Superman is (at best) a few years away. Gal Gadot will reprise her role as "Wonder Woman" for the fourth time in "Wonder Woman 1984" set for 2019, Jason Momoa will headline "Aquaman" this December and Ezra Miller is reportedly still on board for a "Flash" movie due to shoot in 2019.

But his departure doesn't mean that Warner Bros.is shelving the character, as Clark Kent could potentially appear in the studio's developing Supergirl movie or in his own solo film down the line.

It'd certainly make for an interesting change of pace, though it seems the next standalone Superman movie is years down the line at this point, which, frankly, isn't all that surprising.

Following publication of THR's report, Warner Bros. issued the following statement to ET Canada: "While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we've always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged".

Henry Cavill is Superman no more.

The stunning turn of events comes days before the Lightning open training camp following a trip to the Eastern Conference final. The Lightning reached the Eastern Conference Final in three of the past four seasons and reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2015.

Warner Bros. has also "shifted its focus" toward producing a Supergirl origin story, says the Hollywood Reporter. This effectively removes an actor of Cavill's age from the storyline's equation given that Superman, aka Kal-El, would be an infant, according to DC lore.

There have also been rumors that Warners is trying to steer their entire DC universe in a new direction, and essentially hit the "reset" button on the whole brand.

THR said: "Contract talks between Cavill's WME reps and Warners broke down, and the door is now closing on other potential Superman appearances". That might happen for someone now, but it doesn't look like being the former Tudors star, who it was recently announced will lead Netflix's The Witcher series.

Cavill first starred as Superman in 2013's "Man of Steel", reprising his role in 2016's "Batman v Superman" and later in 2017's "Justice League". While serving as President, which is something bigger than even Superman, he is served by his long-suffering assistant Courtney and the reprogrammed alien intelligence Brainiac, as he works to protect the world with political as well as superhuman might.

Cavill had a busy summer, co-starring with Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible - Fallout.
