Jerome Boateng reveals what he told Jose Mourinho during summer phone call

Set to bid goodbye to Juventus soon

The 2014 FIFA World Cup victor was heavily linked with the Red Devils and Paris Saint-Germain in the latest transfer window, but a move away from the German giants did not materialise.

Bayern Munich's Boateng had already made his stance clear on the transfer as he personally called Mourinho to rule himself out of any potential deal. While he may be seen as an upgrade to what is now available to Mourinho, it's hard to see United making such a move without some players being moved on to allow it to happen. "It's one of the biggest clubs in the world".

Boateng was one of several defenders who had been targeted by Manchester United in the transfer window as Mourinho aimed to bring in a new centre-half.

Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng confirms that he turned down the chance to join Manchester United in the summer.

"I called Jose Mourinho".
