Author of 'How to kill your husband' arrested for killing husband

She's charged with murdering her husband — and her essay ‘How to Murder Your Husband’ is as chilling as you could imagine

While this type of story might normally be newsworthy only at the local level, this particular crime has a twist: the suspect wrote an essay entitled, "How to Murder Your Husband".

On September 5, police arrested his 68-year-old wife Nancy on the charge of his murder.

A romance novelist arrested last week in OR for the alleged murder of her husband at a culinary school last June reportedly once wrote an essay entitled "How to Murder Your Husband". His students found his body in the kitchen. "I would say she had an air of relief, like it was nearly a godsend". In this case, the opposite is clearly true. They also dealt with murder. My husband and best friend, Chef Dan Brophy was killed yesterday morning.

Crompton-Brophy's How To Murder Your Husband essay has since been made private.

She is scheduled for her first court appearance on Thursday afternoon.

Daniel Brophy was found mortally wounded on the floor of the Oregon Culinary Institute in Portland, where he taught.

Nancy, who has also written sensuous mysteries such as "Hell on the Heart" and "The Wrong Husband", is a self-published author.

A novelist who wrote an essay about how she plots her books titled How To Murder Your Husband has been charged with murdering her husband.

Crampton Brophy announced the death of her husband on Facebook a day after the killing, saying she was "struggling to make sense of everything right now".

Crampton Brophy's attorney, Jane Claus, declined to comment to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

"I find it is easier to wish people dead than to actually kill them", she noted. She wrote she would not want to "worry about blood and brains splattered on the wall", or "remembering lies".

The couple "had our ups and downs", she wrote on her author page, but there were "more good times than bad".

Despite a motion to have Nancy released on her own recognizance, the presiding Judge determined there is enough probable cause to continue to hold Nancy in jail. "Please save phone calls for a few days until I can function".
