Sheriff's deputies are interviewing some 30 people who witnessed the shootings.

He said Casarez was a legal permanent resident of the U.S. The 50-caliber gun used in the shootings was legally purchased in 2004, Youngblood said. Minimally, a handgun was involved, he said.

He said he and about five other employees were at the shop after closing time and suddenly heard three very loud gunshots. Another subject arrived on the scene and after a short foot chase the gunman shot and killed him.

The gunman then went to a home where he shot a man and daughter. "The suspect then drove his vehicle to Breckenridge Road". At this point, the suspect fatally shot himself in the chest.

He resisted deputies' repeated demands that he drop the weapon as the police sirens wailing in the background add to the tense moments.

"When we know what the reason is we will share it with you".

Police said in a press conference that they believe the murders were sparked by a domestic dispute, between the shooter and his ex-wife, Petra. The deputy cornered the attacker, who subsequently took his own life.

Officials with the Kern County Sheriff's Department said that six people are dead including the shooter in a shooting spree Wednesday evening. Youngblood presented this account of what allegedly happened. The mother and child, however, managed to escape. The child and woman were not killed.

There were firearms recovered. Another man entered the business and tried to run.

The suspect fled toward a neighborhood, Youngblood said, and was headed toward a specific residence.

"We need to find out where this started...obviously these are not random shootings".
