After confirming the first positive insect testing positive for West Nile this year, the Grayson County Health Department is already taking preventative actions.

In particular, the national Institute of public health on Friday reported 30 new cases of disease in humans after being bitten by mosquitoes with the virus.

The three deaths in Iowa this year are the most from West Nile since 2003 and Garvey is calling on Iowans not to let their guard down. WNV cases have been reported in all of the continental United States.

The virus can not be spread directly from infected animals to humans or from person to person.
