Taiwan's National Immigration Agency and Criminal Investigation Bureau confirmed to CBS News Friday that Wilson had been arrested.

Staffers at the Zhongzheng Second police precinct in Taipei, Taiwan, where the media outlet Taiwan News reported the apprehension, were familiar with the case but could not confirm any arrest because of the late hour there, they told ABC News.

Officer said it's unclear why Wilson went to Taiwan, but he is known to travel extensively. The National Immigration Agency is now urging the American Institute in Taiwan to issue a valid travel document for Mr. Wilson, so he can be deported back to the US accordingly.

Cody Wilson, who runs Defense Distributed, which designs and distributes programs to print guns, was charged on Wednesday with having sex with an underage girl and paying her $500 in Texas, according to Commander Troy Officer of the Austin Police Department. In an affidavit first obtained by KVUE, the victim claimed that she had met Wilson on the website SugarDaddyMeet.com, and law enforcement officials had confirmed the existence of surveillance footage capturing Wilson and the victim checking into an Austin, Texas, hotel together on August 15.

The pair met in person at a coffee shop in South Austin before going to a hotel, where Wilson allegedly assaulted the teen and paid her $500 in cash.

Wilson is identified in the affidavit as the owner of Austin-based Defense Distributed. A counselor for the teenager reported the accusation to Austin police a week later, according to the affidavit. He later dropped her off at a Whataburger restaurant, she told authorities. Wilson faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

The files could previously be downloaded for free, but a federal judge issued a nationwide injunction last month that blocked the posting of the blueprints online.

Before leaving the United States, Wilson was informed by a friend of the victim that she had spoken to police, they said.
