Scientists: Asteroid-alien Oumuamua again began to threaten the Land

However, scientists have pinned down the four most likely origins for 'Oumuamua.

An worldwide team of astronomers discovered from ESA data that the mysterious object was an interstellar visitor which came from one of four possible stars.

Ever since astronomers spotted 'Oumuamua, the first-ever object from beyond our solar system, it has offered more questions than answers: - What is it? All four of them are dwarf stars. Scientists observed that it behaves similarly to comets and is carrying something that looks like ice and could turn into water vapor, speeding it up.

As 'Oumuamua was passing through space, scientists gathered the data in June, revealing that the rock wasn't just traveling through space with no apparent trajectory, in free fall.

To this end, Coryn Bailer-Jones at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Germany and his team, dived deep into Gaia's second data dump which was made public in April. "One could imagine sending a spacecraft to visit such an object and bring back a piece of it", he said, adding that the "hypothetical rock" could tell us more about how our solar system compares to others.

In a statement provided by the White House, Kavanaugh said the event "did not happen" and that the allegation was "a smear , plain and simple".

Oumuamua would have passed Candidates 3 and 4 1.1 and 6.3 million years ago respectively - with similar relative speeds and minimum distances. Unfortunately, the visitor was caught only as it was leaving, but astronomers were still able to use ground-based and space telescopes to measure the object's motion.

By conducting some complex analysis, the researchers traced the path of 'Oumuamua back millions of years to four dwarf stars considered as candidates for the weird object's home star. Two other candidate stars have been cataloged, but otherwise little is known about them.

Gaia project scientist Dr Timo Prusti said: "While it's still early to pinpoint 'Oumuamua's home star, the result illustrates the power of Gaia to delve into the history of our Milky Way galaxy".

The paper notes that the next release of data from Gaia will provide movement data on many more stars, including some that could have once hosted 'Oumuamua. However, the team did identify four stars which would have been very close to its path in the last several million years.

Scientists studying the origins are looking forward to future Gaia data with a larger sample of radial velocities for stars that will allow the team to reconstruct and investigate trajectories or more stars. "Determining the home of Oumuamua is equatable to finding a needle in a haystack the size of Mount Everest".
