What next for Khabib Nurmagomedov & Conor McGregor after UFC 229 turmoil?

Conor Mc Gregor speaking at a pre-fight press conference where he repeatedly insulted his opponent

Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor via submission in the fourth round of UFC 229 before the Russian fighter climbed out of the ring and attacked a member of McGregor's team on live television.

There would be no shortage of storylines going into a potential rematch and while the post-fight melee was condemned by UFC President Dana White, you shouldn't be one bit surprised if footage of the brawl is used in the promotion of a second fight between Nurmagomedov and McGregor.

Meanwhile, McGregor was involved in a separate skirmish with others who had jumped into the octagon before the situations eventually were diffused as the fighters were escorted from T-Mobile Arena.

One Irish fan is knocked out and left with blood streaming from his face during the disturbing incident.

Nurmagomedov was due to receive a $2 million guaranteed base salary for the fight, according to figures disclosed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which sanctioned the mixed martial arts bout.

Conor McGregor says he "won the battle" even though he "lost the match" against Khabib Nurmagomedov on Saturday. I don't know when things started turning into some kind of shit show?! "And I mean Khabib", White said.

"I've been doing this for 18 years and on the biggest night ever, I couldn't be more disappointed".

McGregor was attacked in the cage by three of Nurmagomedov's associates after the fight.

McGregor vs Khabib: Will there be a rematch between the rivals? "I'm sure Herb Dean was looking at it closely and considering saying to Conor, "You've got to do something".

"This is not the way we want to celebrate such a dominant performance but when you talk about people's country, family and religion and intentionally try to kill someone like he said and the cornermen running their mouths after, this is the fight game and sh- happens", Ali Abdelaziz wrote on Instagram. When you have such an wonderful event that we've worked hard to build over the last several months and it goes ideal, I mean literally it was too eerie.
