The first poster from 'Aladdin' live-action will warm your heart

Will Smith reveals first post for Disney's 'Aladdin'

Will Smith can't wait for Disney's remake of "Aladdin". Aladdin, played by Mena Massoud, goes into the Cave of Wonders and discovers the Genie's lamp.

The first teaser image for Disney's live-action Aladdin film has been released.

With the first poster now out in the wild, it shouldn't be long before we get a glimpse at those Arabian nights in a trailer - and the film is set to hit United Kingdom cinemas on 24 May. As we all know, Aladdin is that diamond in the rough. The tagline reads, "Choose Wisely". It's a straight up teaser set to get your nostalgia tingling as you see an animated classic translated to "live-action" (I don't think there's a single shot in this trailer that isn't filled with CGI, which is fine, but it's live-action in the same way that Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book is live-action). HollywoodLife actually saw the first footage of the film back at CinemaCon in April 2018.

Will Aladdin work as a live-action movie? Smith is playing the role of Genie, memorably voiced by Robin Williams in the original. Aladdin plans to uses these wishes to win over the attractive Princess Jasmine, but the evil Jafar has other plans. Remaking a Disney film is certainly a big shift in tone and story content than even his most accessible films like Sherlock Holmes but Disney seems to have enough trust in the director to hand him one of the studio's most beloved '90s animated films. The film is directed by Guy Ritchie and although his previous films like King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. underperformed critically and financially, the iconic director is giving the realm of big-budget adaptations another shot with next year's Aladdin.

Aladdin hits theatres on May 24, 2019.
