Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump arrives on stage on the first day of the Republican National Convention

According to the Times, it's not yet clear whether Psy-Group's proposals would have violated USA regulations about foreign involvement in our elections.

The Time adds there is "no evidence that the Trump campaign acted on the proposals".

Then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton speaks as then-Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump listens during the second presidential debate at Washington University in St. Louis, October 9, 2016. The contacts between Gates and the Israeli company were first reported on Tuesday by the New York Times.

Former Trump campaign official Rick Gates.

The Trump campaign's interest in the work began as Russians were escalating their effort to aid Trump.

The proposal to gather intelligence on Clinton suggests "intensive, deep open source opposition research on target "Forest" and her 10 closest associates".

Clinton's response was referring to Trump's comments at a July 2016 news conference in which he asked Russian Federation to hack Clinton's emails from her time as secretary of State and make them public.

While Gates ultimately rejected the proposals, according to the Monday report, Psy-Group head Joel Zamel apparently outlined the idea to Trump's son Donald Trump Jr.at a August 3, 2016 meeting at Trump Tower in Manhattan.

Gates, along with Paul Manafort, were indicted for tax evasion and financial fraud last fall.

That meeting, revealed in May by The Times, was also attended by George Nader, an emissary from the ruler of the United Arab Emirates, and by Erik Prince, a Republican donor and the founder of the private security company formerly known as Blackwater.

Gates pleaded guilty this year, and is cooperating with the investigation.

Former Psy-Group employees said that, in anticipation of the Trump Tower meeting, Zamel asked them to prepare an updated version of the third proposal.

"Mr. Zamel never pitched, or otherwise discussed, any of Psy-Group's proposals relating to the US elections with anyone related to the Trump campaign, including not with Donald Trump Jr., except for outlining the capabilities of some of his companies in general terms", said the lawyer, Marc Mukasey. A lawyer for Zamel said that Zamel had not personally discussed specific proposals with Donald Trump Jr. or anyone else from the Trump campaign.
