Israel and Jordan reopen key border crossings with Syria

Last month, Syrian rose the transit crossing fees to be paid by lorries passing through their territory, regardless of they are loaded or empty.

The resumption of commercial trade through the crossing will also be a diplomatic victory for Assad, whose government has been isolated from its Arab neighbors since the war began in 2011.

Arab countries have boycotted the regime since the early days of the war, freezing its membership in the 22-member state Arab League.

The ministry also called for ending the "aggressive" and "illegitimate" presence of the USA forces in Syria, said state news agency SANA.

Speculation about Naseeb reopening grew in July, after Syrian pro-government forces-backed by Russian airpower-retook the entirety of Syria's southern Daraa and Quneitra provinces from rebels.

Jordan's state news agency Petra said 199 people crossed to Syria on Monday, of whom 37 were Syrians and the rest Jordanians. Its closure in 2015 cut a crucial transit route for trucks transporting goods between Syria, Jordan, Turkey and other Persian Gulf countries.

Al-Jaafari said there is no reason not to open the border crossings between both countries, saying efforts are being exerted to reopen them as soon as possible.

It added that IS gunmen seized civilians by force and took them to areas in the last pocket of territory they control in the region.

The UN force returned to the area after Syrian government forces, backed by Russian Federation, succeeded in recapturing territory near the Golan Heights and driving out armed militant groups from a "de-escalation zone". The Israeli military said only United Nations peacekeepers would be allowed across for now.

The Syrian Army captured Nasib in July after dislodging the rebels from the southern province of Daraa.

Separately, Israel reopened the Quneitra crossing on its occupied Golan Heights front with Syria on Monday.

The Druze community was divided when Israel occupied the Golan Heights in 1967. The UNDOF deployed in the area in 1974.

"We said from the outset that we have no interest in meddling in the civil war inside Syria, we have never intervened and our interest is to ensure the security of the citizens of Israel", Liberman told a crowd at the crossing.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors Syria's war, said as many as 130 families were abducted by the extremists.
