Pop star’s mushroom cloud t-shirt bombs in Japan

TV Asahi cancels performance of K-pop group BTS over A-bomb shirt

Now BTS, the South Korean boy band, have been blocked from appearing on Japanese television after one of them wore a T-shirt apparently celebrating the dropping of the atomic bomb.

'We apologise for disappointing fans who were looking forward to this. "After asking their record company about this, we made the decision to postpone their appearance on our Nov 9 show", TV Asahi said.

The broadcaster was scheduled to feature the internationally popular seven-man group on its live show "Music Station" on the evening of November 9.

BTS later apologised to its fans for not being able to make an appearance.

I can never accept the act that #BTS member wore the atomic bomb T-shirts humanely.

The T-shirt featured an image of the mushroom cloud of an atomic bomb as well as the words, "Patriotism", "Our History" "Liberation" and "Korea".

South Korea's local news outlets raised the possibility that the move was evident of anti-Korean sentiment in Japan. "We will work hard so that BTS can continue to meet their fans with better music and performances".

BTS member Jimin reportedly wore the shirt previous year, on Aug 15, when Koreans celebrate the end of Japanese occupation in 1945. "Music Station" stated on its official website, "A specific T-shirt worn by a BTS member caused a controversy, which was reported by media". Japan ruled the Korean Peninsula from 1910 until the end of Asia's involvement in World War II, which was brought about when Japan surrendered following the USA's use of two atomic bombs.

Jimin, 23, was reportedly photographed wearing the shirt previous year on 15 August, when Koreans mark the anniversary of the end of the Japanese occupation.

Japan, meanwhile, became the only nation to have experienced a nuclear attack when the U.S. dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagaski killing an estimated 200,000-plus people at the end of WWII.

"I am a resident of Hiroshima, I will not allow BTS to appear on the music station".

Tokyo reacted furiously in October after South Korea's top court ordered a Japanese steel giant to compensate victims of wartime forced labour programmes.
