White House Bars CNN Reporter After Verbal Duel With Trump

US President Donald Trump gets into a heated exchange with CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta as NBC correspondent Peter Alexander looks on during a post-election press conference in the East Room of the White House in Washington

Commenting on the recent suspension of CNN correspondent Jim Acosta's press pass by the White House, US President Donald Trump described the reporter as "a very unprofessional man".

"You are a rude awful person, you should not be working for CNN", Trump said, further baselessly accusing him of reporting "fake news" and calling him an "enemy of the people".

Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Friday, Trump launched a tirade targeted at Acosta, calling him "unprofessional" and threatening others with having their credentials revoked.

Trump spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders claims he put his hands on a young intern as he tried to prevent her from taking back the microphone, an assertion Acosta calls a "lie".

Before the Florida elections took over the news cycle, CNN's Jim Acosta had one final and intense exchange with the Trump White House.

Both SPJ and the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) indicated that the White House made the decision because Acosta asked tough questions. Trump said Ryan was "nasty" as well as a "loser" that "doesn't know what she's doing".

Trump also accused Acosta of treating Press Secretary Sarah Sanders in a way that was "awful".

In his press availability, Trump also went after April Ryan, a reporter for American Urban Radio Networks, as someone who did not show respect.

Melbourne attacker swings knife at police, 'trolley man' helps officers
This image made from video shows police on street corner after a shooting in Melbourne , Australia , Friday, Nov. 9, 2018. Mr Hair said the assailant was dressed in Islamic clothing and of African appearance and about six foot four inches tall.

The differences are subtle but impactful: In the version shared by Sanders, Acosta's arm motion as he tries to keep the microphone away from the intern seems slightly sped up, making his motion appear more aggressive, nearly as though he is karate-chopping her. "We will not tolerate the inappropriate behaviour clearly documented in this video", she wrote.

"When I stood up, in his response, he tells me to 'sit down, ' in a condescending, very ugly matter", Ryan said.

As he left the White House for a brief trip to France, CNN reporter Abby Phillip asked the president whether he wanted his new acting attorney general, Matthew Whitaker, to "rein in" special counsel Robert Mueller, as has been widely speculated.

"When you're in the White House - this is a very sacred place to me".

Other social media users are sharing one of Mr Trump's tweets from 2013 where he criticises the "intimidation of its reporters". "What a stupid question and I watch you a lot and you ask a lot of stupid questions".

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told "Fox and Friends" on November 8 "The reporter from NBC was already standing, getting ready to ask his question, and she was just doing her job, which was to reclaim the microphone that belongs to the federal government". "Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately because you can see for yourself what it is, perception is reality with this president".

Nevertheless, as a result of his actions, Jim's credentials and permission to attend White House conferences has officially been revoked - for now.

"I mean, you talk about somebody that's a loser", Trump said about Ryan.
