According to multiple news sources the attorney was taken into police custody on Wednesday following an allegation of felony domestic violence by an unknown woman. "This is an ongoing investigation and we will provide more details as they become available". "I would never disrespect them by touching a woman inappropriately or striking a woman".

Following his representation of Julie Swetnick for her allegations against Kavanaugh, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley said in October that he was referring Avenatti and Swetnick to the Justice Department.

Avenatti remained in custody Wednesday afternoon and a call and text message seeking comment weren't immediately returned.

He the legal representative of Stormy Daniels, an adult film star who had an alleged affair with Trump and is attempting to sue the President.

Five minutes later, Avenatti showed up and ran into the building, chasing after her.

Avenatti was formally charged with felony domestic violence and his bail was set at $50,000, LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera told Fox News. She also sued President Trump and his personal attorney, Michael Cohen, alleging defamation. TMZ then changed their report to simply read that an unidentified woman made the report against Avenatti.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the woman's face was "swollen and bruised" when she submitted her complaint to authorities. Avenatti said at the time that the referral was "baseless".

TMZ reported that Avenatti followed his wife, shouting, "She hit me first". "I look forward to being fully exonerated", he said.

But after news of his arrest broke, the Vermont Democratic Party quickly canceled his appearance.
