'Friends' staying on Netflix through 2019

039;Friends'

Friends originally arrived on Netflix in January 2015, and some people noted that the sitcom is the only reason they are subscribed to the streaming service.

Adding to the complexity is that despite WarnerMedia's stance on Friends, the company's chief executive, John Stankey, has also said that WarnerMedia shows will indeed migrate back from other streaming platforms once WarnerMedia launches its apps.

"Friends" will always be there for you, just not on Netflix as of January.

Apparently, Netflix previously paid $30 million a year to keep the show on the service.

The New York Times reports that it cost Netflix $100 million to grant users that wish, with the streaming service reportedly paying that amount to Friends' owner, WarnerMedia.

The streaming service announced the decision to keep the comedy on their streaming site for 2019 on Monday and it's resolved a lot of our couch-related worries for the year ahead.

Losing Friends will be a big blow for Netflix as the comedy is the third most popular sitcom in the U.S. behind The Big Bang Theory and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

According to Decider, Friends will be gone as of January 1st, 2019 and fans have taken to Twitter with all kinds of sentiments.

Enormously popular 1990s and 2000s sitcom "Friends" is to remain available on streaming service Netflix until 2020, after which point it may well end up on WarnerMedia's upcoming platform. But as the streaming world has become more and more crowded, Netflix's model has shifted in these past four years to favor its own productions. "So, guess I'll be binging 10 seasons of Friends this month".
