United States dad makes daughter walk 8km to school for bullying on bus

School bus Facebook viral video ohio bullying

Kirsten Cox, 10, of Swanton, Ohio, was made to walk to school by her father after she was suspended for bullying.

Matt Cox, a native of Swanton, Ohio, is dividing opinions across the country after he chose to punish his 10-year-old daughter for bullying by making her walk the 5 miles to school in near-freezing temperatures.

The video has been viewed over 15 million times and shared nearly 400,000 times.

Cox says that while the 10-year-old was upset when she started the walk, he talked to her during it, and by the end she had calmed down. The walk was broken up between the child's three-day suspension, and she finished the final two miles Wednesday, according to WTVG.

"You are teaching your child accountability for her actions and I fully support your tough approach with her." wrote Kate Millar Young.

Cox later took to Facebook to defend himself amid backlash, saying his daughter was not harmed by the punishment and that more parents need to hold their kids accountable as he did.

The video has been shared more than 300,000 times.

Facebook accused of giving access to users’ data
Facebook knew collecting call records and text message history was sensitive, but did it anyway, according to leaked emails. The documents suggest robust internal discussions about linking data to revenue.

On the Facebook post he captioned the video "life lessons" and told 13ABChe hopes other children will see this and make a choice to be kinder to others.

Kirsten explained that her dad's punishment did indeed make her learn her lesson for bullying as she'd been in a similar position in the past herself.

One thing is for sure, little Kirsten will never take a bus ride to school for granted ever again.

Cox posted video of the punishment - and was swiftly met with the typical online cacophony of applause and boos.

Cox knows that his method won't sit well with other parents, but he's ok with that, since he believes that's the best way he can teach his "beautiful daughter" accountability.

"I know a lot of you parents are not going to agree with this and that's alright", he says.

"Bullying is unacceptable, especially in my household", Cox said. "So that was me showing how I hold my kid accountable".
