Trump denies collusion after major revelations in Russian Federation probe

Giuliani to CNN: Mueller Thinks Manafort Lied About Trump Tower Meeting

These are all from New York's federal courts and are unrelated to the investigation of whether anybody in Trump's circle coordinated with Russian officials in their attempts to manipulate the outcome of the 2016 election.

The meeting did not take place.

Cohen and Manafort are among five former Trump associates whom prosecutors have accused of lying either to federal investigators or to Congress.

Trump claimed that the feds' filings vindicated him.

President trump has repeatedly questioned Mueller's credibility and said his latest findings "totally clear him".

A court filing also reveals that Cohen told prosecutors he and Trump discussed a potential meeting with Putin on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in 2015, shortly after Trump announced his candidacy for president.

But prosecutors gave him no such clearance.

But the Mueller team credits Cohen with cooperating with special prosecutors in their investigation into Russian meddling.

Mueller revealed that Cohen told prosecutors about what seemed to be a previously unknown November 2015 contact with a Russian national, who claimed to be a "trusted person" in the Russian Federation offering the campaign "political synergy" and "synergy on a government level".

But Cohen didn't follow up.

Prosecutors said probation officials recommended a sentence for Cohen of three-and-a-half years in prison.

Much of the media coverage after Mueller and federal prosecutors in NY released their filing documents, related to the sentencing of Cohen and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, focused on possible campaign finance crimes by Cohen and Trump related to payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels (real name: Stephanie Clifford) and Playboy model Karen McDougal.

Lieu, a Trump critic, told MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Hardball that "we have a sitting president of the United States who committed two felonies while running for president".

He spoke with Ali Velshi about the big takeaways from the new Robert Mueller filings on Michael Cohen and Paul Manaofrt.

Cohen had asked for a sentence of no prison time, citing his cooperation.

The Manhattan feds noted Cohen's cooperation but said it was limited.

The crafting of that narrative was a "deliberate effort to use his lies as a way to set the tone and shape the course of the hearings in an effort to stymie the inquiries", the special counsel's office said.

The documents offered a harsh explanation for Cohen's crimes, saying he was motivated by greed. They said that "reflects Cohen's extensive, deliberate and serious criminal conduct".

Mueller filed court documents with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of NY that state Cohen, despite initially saying he stopped working on the Moscow project in June 2016, "continued to work on the project and discuss it with Individual 1 well into the campaign".

The court documents disclosed that Trump hired Cohen in 2007 for $500,000 a year after he ousted the board of a condo that was trying to remove Trump's name from its building.

But Mueller has been inching ever closer to the White House, and early on Friday Trump fired off a feverish volley of tweets against a probe he dubs a "witch hunt", accusing Mueller of "big time conflicts of interest" and alleging the prosecutor coerced false testimony from witnesses.
