NY: A six-hour documentary series airing this weekend has brought American R&B star R. Kelly back into the spotlight, revisiting accusations of criminal misconduct including having sex with several minors. These survivors deserved to be lifted up and heard.

'I hope it gets them closer to some kind of justice'.

- John Legend (@johnlegend) January 4, 2019To everyone telling me how courageous I am for appearing in the doc, it didn't feel risky at all.

The mother of the R&B princess who passed over a decade ago went on to say: "My daughter only wanted to realize her dream of sharing her talent with the world, and give her all performing on stage and in front of the camera for the fans she adored so much". The article reveals how Kelly was sued for $10 million by aspiring singer Tiffany "Tia" Hawkins, who began having a sexual relationship with Kelly in 1991, when she was 15 and he was 24. In the first episode, airing Thursday on Lifetime, former backup singer Jovante Cunningham says she saw firsthand Kelly having sex with his underage protégée Aaliyah Haughton (who died in a plane crash in 2011 when she was 22) on a tour bus sometime in the '90s.

John Legend is the rare exception, stepping up whereas others like Jay Z and Lady Gaga declined to participate.

Brainwashed:Allen (above at 17) believed that she was Kelly's girlfriend at the time due to the fact that she spent all her time with him and they were havcing a sexual relationship. I remember Ahmir ['Questlove" Thompson] was like, "I would do anything for you but I can't do this.' It's not because they support him, it's because it's so messy and muddy. Cunningham said Kelly was 27 at the time, while Aaliyah was allegedly just 15 at the time.

She added: "At one point in the film, someone asked, 'Where was the outrage [at the height of musical success in the '90s]?' And that's just because a lot of this [outrage] was pre-digital, but it did exist".

Quest deleted the tweet when Hampton quoted it and responded with an explanation of her own.

Smith has previously spoken out about the alleged wedding but in the documentary he said, as reported by USA Today, "I'm not proud of that [day]". "I like older women, go figure, you know. I told you I need Black male allies". A Lifetime rep told the outler that the docuseries is going on as scheduled, noting, "Lifetime has always been a brand that champions women's stories".

Kelly's lawyer Brian Nix threatened Lifetime with a lawsuit if the network aired the docuseries, which Nix said was "packed with lies", according to TMZ.
